Not all dental printing is equal. A shop that's great at clear aligner models may not be set up for surgical guides, and turnaround expectations vary wildly between a national lab network and a local shop. Here's what to check before you send a case:
1. Match the specialty to your case
Surgical guides, dentures, orthodontic models, and night guards each need different resins, printers, and post-processing. Use the specialty filter above and confirm the shop lists your exact application — not just "dental."
2. Ask about materials, not just printers
For anything going in a patient's mouth, the resin matters more than the machine. Look for biocompatible, FDA-cleared materials (e.g. Lucitone Digital Print, KeySplint Soft, TrueDent) and ask which one they'll use for your case.
3. Turnaround is the real price
A guide that arrives after the surgery date is worthless at any price. National labs often ship overnight; local shops may offer same-week. Confirm the turnaround in writing before you commit.
4. Certifications worth asking about
- NADL / DAMAS certification — quality-management standards for dental labs.
- FDA-registered facility — required for labs fabricating certain medical devices.
- CDT (Certified Dental Technician) on staff — a signal of experienced case work.
Listings marked "Not listed" simply haven't published that detail — ask us or contact the bureau directly.
